Announcing the Inaugural Free State Provincial Trail Running Championship
The picturesque Koedoeslaagte Trail Park is set to host the first-ever Trail Run Championship for Athletics Free State. This event will be open to all, welcoming runners from across the provinces to come and compete in an electrifying display of athleticism and camaraderie.
The Decathlon Crater Traverse will mark the commencement of the inaugural Free State Trail Running Championship on Sunday, May 26, just outside Parys, Free State.
Trail Running, with its myriad forms such as Ultras, Mountain Runs, and Multi-day Runs, often conjures images of remote and exclusive events, inaccessible to many who revel in the simple joy of traversing wilderness trails and basking in their nation's natural beauty. However, this perception is about to undergo a transformation. The Decathlon Crater Traverse will mark the commencement of the inaugural Free State Trail Running Championship on Sunday, May 26, just outside Parys, Free State.
Introducing the premiere DECATHLON Athletics Free State Trail Running Championship, where a challenging 22km trail will determine the U/19 & U/23 champions. The course consists of a 12km lap followed by a 10km lap, boasting an elevation gain of 820m. Starting and finishing at the main venue, the route promises an immersive experience along natural trails, featuring runnable climbs, sections with loose rocks and gravel, and approximately 15% shaded areas.
For our Seniors & Masters champions, the 32km trail awaits, comprising of a 12km lap followed by two 10km laps, with an elevation gain of 1210m. Like its counterpart, this route offers a thrilling blend of challenging terrain and scenic vistas, ensuring an unforgettable race experience.
With an entry fee of just R250, this championship offers exceptional value, further enhanced by a prize pool of R10 800. However, it's essential to note that all participants must possess a valid ASA license to compete for the coveted titles.
